F1 to introduce super licence which prevents fast-tracking of drivers

• Drivers must be at least 18 and have enough experience
• Rules would have kept Max Verstappen of this year’s grid
• Verstappen becomes youngest man to drive F1 car

Formula One’s governing body has published details of a new super licence system to be introduced in 2016 to ensure drivers are at least 18 years old and experienced enough to race.

The revamped rules, in an appendix to the international sporting code published on the FIA’s website, would have kept the 17-year-old racer Max Verstappen off this year’s starting grid.
