Eto’o on verge of Everton exit

January 17, 2015 13:41:17 UK

Everton manager Roberto Martinez insists he has not fallen out with Samuel Eto’o who appears to be on the verge of signing for Sampdoria.

The 33-year-old striker did not feature in Everton’s FA Cup third-round replay defeat at West Ham United on Tuesday and his agent has claimed that his client is keen to return to Italy.

Eto’o has made 14 Premier League appearances for Everton this season and scored three goals but now appears to be surplus to requirements at Goodison Park.

We have heard a lot of stories but there is nothing sinister with Samuel.

Everton areĀ 17.00 to finish in the top six this season andĀ 1.85 to beat West Brom on Monday.

Eto’o scored nine times in 21 Premier League appearances for Chelsea last season and has also played for Barcelona, Inter Milan and Real Mallorca during an illustrious career.

Martinez said: “We have heard a lot of stories but there is nothing sinister with Samuel.

“It is very natural. January was always going to be a moment where a player like Samuel was going to consider all his options. If the option he decides is to stay at Everton until the end of the season, we will welcome that.

“But there is nothing strange, nothing has happened. Samuel has a terrific relationship with everybody and has been a big influence with most of the young players.”
