England role key to Cipriani future

January 07, 2015 08:55:26 UK

Former Wasps man Danny Cipriani is reportedly wanted in France.

Sale Sharks director of rugby Steve Diamond says fly-half Danny Cipriani will make a decision on his future based on his prospects of an England recall.

The 27-year-old hopes to force his way into the international set-up in time to feature at the World Cup later this year, but may opt to head for France if the signals from the England camp are not positive.

If Danny decides to leave, which we don’t want him to do, then there is always somebody else out there.

Diamond, whose player is out of contract at the end of the season, told BBC Radio Manchester: “Danny is going to make the decision in the next two weeks. He has spoken with England, he’s still in the fourth spot I think.

“He’s just got to play well against sides like Northampton – against people in those slots above him – and if he does that, and if he thinks it’s right to stay, I’m pretty sure he’ll sign here.

“If he doesn’t then he will probably take his option abroad. If Danny decides to leave, which we don’t want him to do, then there is always somebody else out there.”

Cipriani is currently behind Owen Farrell, George Ford and Stephen Myler in the England pecking order, with head coach Stuart Lancaster currently finalising his plans for the upcoming Six Nations.

Meanwhile, Sale have announced the signing of Samoan flanker TJ Ioane until the end of the season, with the 25-year-old joining on loan from the Highlanders.

The Sharks are 51.00 to win the Aviva Premiership Grand Final this season, with Bath 4.50 and Saracens 3.00.
