Derby County appoint Nigel Pearson as manager on three-year contract

• Former Leicester manager will be assisted by Chris Powell
• Darren Wassall returns to previous role as academy director

Derby County have appointed Nigel Pearson as their manager. The 52-year-old, out of work since he left Leicester City last June, has signed a three-year contract.

Pearson takes over from Darren Wassall, who stepped up from his role as academy director in February after Paul Clement was sacked. Wassall will return to his previous position, with the former Derby defender Chris Powell brought in as Pearson’s assistant.
