David Hercules favourite for Fremantle Cup

January 07, 2015 12:07:40 UK

Class pacer David Hercules is set to go off as hot favourite in the Group 1 Fremantle Cup (2536m) at Gloucester Park on Friday night after being drawn in barrier three.

Trainer David Thompson says he could not be happier with the condition of the horse and after landing a prime draw, he is supremely confident going into the big race.

To make matters even better for David Hercules, the main danger Bettors Fire, has landed an awkward draw in barrier seven, while in-form runners Hokunai Ben, Billies A Star, Sensational Gabby and Heez On Fire will need some luck from back-line barriers.

The horse is enjoying a trouble-free preparation. There’s been no need to change his routine. He works out, then goes to the beach for a wade.

David Hercules is expected to burn off his rivals and lead early for reinsman Morgan Woodley.

“I’m very happy with David Hercules and I could not be happier with his barrier,” Thompson said after the draw.

“The horse is enjoying a trouble-free preparation. There’s been no need to change his routine. He works out, then goes to the beach for a wade.”

Elsewhere, Gary Hall Sr’s trio Northview Punter, Toretto and Soho Jackman have drawn barriers four, five and six respectively.

Racing and Wagering WA handicappers named My Hard Copy and Soho Highroller as emergencies yesterday and Hall Sr, was not a happy bunny.

“I think they all should have been in the field,” he said. “It is also disappointing that my other entranrs Machtu and Soho Lennon were balloted.

“Soho Lennon won last Friday’s Nights Of Thunder and Machtu ran third from a wide gate. Their current form should have earned them starts.”
