Crystal Palace open talks with QPR over £6.5m Steven Caulker

• One-time England defender on market after wasted year
• Caulker spent season on loan at Southampton and Liverpool

Crystal Palace have opened negotiations with Queens Park Rangers aimed at making Steven Caulker, a former England defender, their first signing of the summer.

Caulker, a former Tottenham Hotspur youth-team graduate who moved to Loftus Road from Cardiff City in 2014 for £8m, spent last season on loan at Southampton and Liverpool from the Championship club, though he managed only one Premier League start all term. The 24-year-old, whose solitary cap was gained against Sweden in 2012, is keen to revive his stuttering career in the top-flight, with QPR happy to listen to offers.
