Cricket – New Road stay suits Moeen

Worcestershire's director of cricket Steve Rhodes believes Moeen Ali's decision to pen a new deal with the county speaks volumes about the Pears' ambition. The England star has signed a new five-year contract with Worcestershire before departing for Australia and being involved in the Ashes series. The 30-year-old had 12 months remaining on his contract at New Road, but will now stay with the county until 2022. "Moeen is our England player and it's important for us to have an England player," said Rhodes. "It sends a message to other clubs that our better players don't feel the need to be elsewhere. Moeen believes we've got some terrific young players that are trying to go places." England are 3/1 with bet365 to win the Ashes outright, while Moeen is 7/2 to be his team's top bowler in the series.
