Cricket – Moeen prepared to step up

Moeen Ali is ready to shoulder the added responsibility of moving up a place in the England batting order during the upcoming Ashes series. Moeen, who is set to return to action after a side strain is ready to step up to the plate when the Test series gets under way in Brisbane later this month, being expected to bat at seven in the likely absence of fellow all-rounder Ben Stokes. He told BBC Sport: "With the Stokesy situation, I've probably got to go up the order by one, but my aim as a cricketer is to get up the order as high as I can, maybe push into a role at five or six. "Obviously that's a bit further ahead. Firstly, I have to do the job at number seven." Moeen averaged 36.62 with the bat in the 2015 Ashes series in England and is 16/1 with bet365 to be top England batsman in the upcoming Ashes series, with the tourists 2/1 to retain the Ashes.
