Cricket – Anderson’s India Test opener blow

Captain Alastair Cook has confirmed that England will be without star bowler James Anderson for the first Test in India from 9th November. England are preparing for the start of their two-Test series in Bangladesh in Chittagong on Thursday, after which they will remain in the sub-continent to face India in a five-match series over the winter. Cook, who will make his 134th appearance against Bangladesh to become England's most-capped Test player ahead of Alec Stewart, has revealed that Anderson is still looking to get back to full fitness from a shoulder injury. The 34-year-old Lancashire fast bowler, who is England's leading Test wicket-taker, was always set to miss out in Bangladesh, but he is also unlikely to face India when the first Test starts next month. Cook said: "I don't think he will be there for the start. He might come out to do some training but he will not be ready to play in the first Test." Meanwhile, England are 8/13 with bet365 to defeat Bangladesh in the first Test and 2/5 to win the two-match series.
