Costel Pantilimon leaves Sunderland to join Watford on three-year deal

• Keeper has not played for Sam Allardyce’s side since December
• Former Manchester City man will battle Heurelho Gomes for gloves

Watford have signed goalkeeper Costel Pantilimon from Sunderland. Pantilimon, the former Manchester City stopper, joins Watford on a three-year deal and will provide competition for the No1 Heurelho Gomes.

The 6ft 8in Romania international started the season as Sunderland’s first-choice goalkeeper but he has not played for Sam Allardyce’s side since their 3-1 defeat at Chelsea on 19 December.
