• Full-back could miss Champions League match
• Clichy injured ankle in victory against Aston Villa
Gaël Clichy is a doubt for Manchester City's Champions League group game with Real Madrid on Wednesday due to ankle injury suffered in Saturday's win over Aston Villa.
Clichy suffered a knock during the 5-0 rout of Villa at the Etihad Stadium and was taken off by City's manager Roberto Mancini after 73 minutes.
Immediately after the match the left-back received treatment and Mancini is sweating on the Frenchman's availability as he seeks a win against the Spanish champions that must be followed by another one at Borussia Dortmund if they are to stand any chance of qualifying for the next phase of the Champions League.
Despite the remote chance of reaching the knock-out stages, Sergio Agüero is still hopeful. "We should never give up," he told mcfc.co.uk. "Where there's a will, there's a way, right? Of course, it's harder now because we're not just relying on ourselves but also on the other teams' results. I think it's [the Madrid game] even more significant now than if we had been in a better position in the table.
"It may sound strange, but I firmly believe that. We must win this game. Whatever the final scoreline is – a good one, I hope – we'll show on the field that we don't give up, like we did in the game against Ajax and in every game we've played. We have a great team, I have no doubt about it and now it is time for us to show just how good we are.
"It's always special to play against a club like Real Madrid. Personally, my connection with Atlético Madrid [his previous club] gives it an additional kick – but there's no difference in how much I want to win this match."
