Clarke Carlisle is in a “stable and relatively comfortable” condition, but faces a “long road to full recovery”, his family have said.

The 35-year-old former Burnley and QPR defender was seriously injured in a collision with a lorry on 22 December. The incident happened on the A64, near York, and Carlisle is recovering in hospital in Leeds.
