Clark eager to emulate Roby

Warrington Wolves new signing Daryl Clark says he will seek to emulate the achievements of fellow hooker James Roby in the years ahead.

Clark enjoyed a stunning 2014 with former club Castleford Tigers and was named Man of Steel as Super League’s best player, but he admits that St Helens star Roby remains the standard bearer for all hookers in the competition.

“James has been the top nine in the game for years now. He’s done it consistently for a long time and I’d love to do the same. James is the standard bearer for that position and he’s the guy everyone should look to emulate,” said Clark, who says he will be forever grateful for the time he spent under Castleford coach Daryl Powell.

“Daryl was awesome for me from the moment he took over. When new coaches come in you want to impress them and he took a shine to me straightaway. He gave me more game time and allowed me a decent platform.”

Clark has linked up with new team-mates following a break from action after the recent Four Nations campaign with England snd he says he’s eager to build on last year’s form and help the Wolves challenge for silverware in 2015.

“I had six weeks off after my England duty and started again on Monday and I’m really looking forward to getting stuck in,” he added. “My body needed a break after the long season, but now I’m fresh and ready.”

Warrington, who open their 2015 Super League campaign on 7th February when the host Salford Red Devils, are 5.00 to win the Grand Final, with St Helens 4.33 and Wigan Warriors 3.75.
