Chris Woakes shone brightest for England on the third day of the Lord’s Test, with the all-rounder producing his second five-wicket haul of an undulating match thus pegging back Pakistan’s position of dominance and putting the series opener on a knife-edge.

With England 67 runs behind after the first innings, Woakes ran in hard for his captain Alastair Cook, with an impeccable line at good pace returning figures of five for 31 from 17 overs to leave the tourists 214 for eight by the close and with their lead sitting at 281 runs going into the morning session.
