As internationals once again break up domestic schedules across Europe, we’ve heard from Scandinavian football fans about how their clubs fared this season

Erlend Vagane was born and raised in the west coast city of Bergen, the second biggest city in Norway. Having been taken to Brann Stadion by his father for the first time at the age of six, he instantly fell in love with the club. “By the time I was 14 I started joined in the singing. I looked up to the older supporters and tried to understand what it meant being a true Brann supporter.”

A top-flight Swedish league match between IFK Gothenburg and Malmo was abandoned after 78 minutes on Wednesday when a firework exploded under the feet of substitute Tobias Sana.

Malmo winger Sana was warming up on the sidelines at the Gamla Ullevi stadium in Gothenburg when a firework that appeared to have been thrown from a section containing home supporters bounced under his feet and exploded.

The start of the domestic football seasons in Norway, Sweden and Finland is a sure sign of early spring in Scandinavia. Last year the three domestic leagues kicked their seasons off within a week of each other, but this year the Norwegian Tippeligaen season starts three weeks earlier than the others, with the first league fixture being played on Friday 11 March. The Swedish Allsvenskan and Finland’s Veikkausliiga both follow on Saturday 2 April.
