The NFL’s LA teams could bring empty stadium porn to a whole new level

America’s biggest league now has two Los Angeles teams. Judging from opening weekend, there may not be many fans to watch them

In American sports there seems to be an obsession with empty stadiums during games. It’s as if some secret mandate exists requiring fans to spend hundreds of dollars for tickets, drop $15 for a beer and then spend two hours trying to exit a postgame parking lot.

Nonetheless, sports writers – including this one at times – feel compelled to snap photos of empty stadium seats and share them on social media. These pictures usually include some snarky observation about the home team or a swipe at fans who left early.

Stan Kroenke’s abject US teams a warning things may get worse for Arsenal

Gunners fans may well despair at their club’s woes but they should be thankful they don’t support one of his teams on the other side of the Atlantic

Arsenal supporters are rightly wondering if it can get any worse for their side. Two losses in three matches to open the Premier League season, a manager in Arsène Wenger who has seemingly lost his touch and precious little done during the transfer window to improve the talent on the pitch. But if Arsenal fans are dismayed at the way the club’s majority shareholder, Stan Kroenke, runs affairs at the Emirates, a glance at his US teams offers little hope things will improve.

The metaphor that best describes Kroenke’s sports franchises is that of a dumpster fire. But, in his case, a raging trash fire isn’t a metaphor. Two years ago, before Kroenke’s NFL Rams team took on the Pittsburgh Steelers, the turf in St Louis’ Edward Jones Dome actually caught fire, delaying kickoff by nearly 30 minutes.

London’s four NFL games in 2017 to be held at Wembley and Twickenham

• Three NFL franchises will play in London for the first time next year
• Baltimore Ravens make maiden trip to face Jacksonville Jaguars

Three NFL franchises will play in London for the first time next year as part of a four-game schedule that will see back-to-back contests staged at Wembley and successive matches hosted at Twickenham.

The Cleveland Browns, who are yet to win a game in 2016, will be the home team against the Minnesota Vikings at Twickenham, which will also be the venue for a Los Angeles Rams “home” game again, this time against the Arizona Cardinals, who were one win away from last year’s Super Bowl.

Los Angeles Rams fire head coach Jeff Fisher after five losing seasons

  • Rams coach fired after dismal 42-14 loss to Falcons on Sunday
  • Special teams coach John Fassel named interim head coach
  • Owner Stan Kroenke: “This is the right time to make a change”

The Los Angeles Rams have fired coach Jeff Fisher after nearly five losing seasons leading the franchise.

The move comes as a surprise because the team had recently announced they had signed him to a three-year extension before this season. But the Rams have been an uninspiring failure in their return to LA with a 4-9 record after Sunday’s dismal 42-14 home loss to Atlanta during which Fisher was booed by the Coliseum crowd.
