Despite four more scandal-hit years as he has struggled to contain the fallout from the calamitous race for the 2018 and 2022 World Cups, Blatter is close to a shoo-in for a fifth term he vowed he would never stand for. Only ill health or a dramatic change of mind will derail him, despite the scandal besieging him.

A magical goal from the midfielder Yaser Kasim gave Iraq a 1-0 win over 10-man Jordan in the Asian Cup on Monday. Kasim, who plays for Swindon Town in the third tier of English football, scored the winner in the 77th minute with a touch of Messi-style magic and a little slice of luck.

Taking the ball from outside the Jordan box, the 23-year-old dribbled his way past three defenders, then unleashed his shot at goal. The ball took a deflection off the outstretched boot of Tareq Khattab, leaving the Jordan captain and goalkeeper, Amer Shafi ,with no chance of making the save.
