Hull KR forward Greg Burke says he is already looking forward to the club’s upcoming pre-season friendly against local rivals Hull FC, following the recent defeat to Championship side Halifax.

Head coach Chris Chester named a young side for the match against the West Yorkshire outfit, which was staged as part of former player Jason Netherton’s testimonial, but a more experienced squad is likely to face the Airlie Birds.

There’s a lot of improvements I need to do to make sure I get picked against Hull.

“Halifax were a very good full-strength side, but it’ll be better for us facing Super League opposition this weekend and upping the intensity. It’ll be a good test to see where we’re all at,” said Burke, who has made the switch to the KC Lightstream Stadium after starting his career with Wigan Warriors.

“I enjoyed it, but I wish I was a bit better in defence. It was great to be back out there after a long, tough pre-season. The result was disappointing, but it was good to get a lot of minutes under my belt and I did just that.

“I felt comfortable with the ball, but there’s a lot of improvements I need to do to make sure I get picked against Hull,” Burke added.

“The move has been a breath of fresh air, to be honest though – I’ve settled in really well and I’m out to impress.”

The Robins failed to reach the Super League play-offs in 2014 and parted company with former head coach Craig Sandercock at the end of the campaign.

They open their new league season with a home match against Leeds on 7th February and are 51.00 to win the Grand Final, with Hull FC 34.00 and the Rhinos 5.50.
