Bulls ship out Deng

Free agent to be Luol Deng was traded to the Cleveland Cavaliers on Monday as the Chicago Bulls started their rebuilding project.

In the first of what is expected to be a number of moves, the Bulls traded Deng for Andrew Bynum and multiple picks with the expectation that Bynum will be released allowing Chicago to get under the luxury tax threshold in the short term.

Without the services of Derrick Rose for a second straight year, the Bulls may next amnesty Carlos Boozer.

On Tuesday, Chicago host the Phoenix Suns at the United Center without Bynum, who should be a member of the Bulls for less than 24 hours.

The Los Angeles Clippers, New York Knicks and Miami Heat are three possible destinations for the center who is still only 26, but is widely said to be disillusioned with the game of basketball.

Even a slightly motivated Bynum would be a very interesting addition to the Heat who, despite being the two-time defending NBA champions, still have match up issues against good rebounding sides.

Miami, 2.80 to win the NBA Championship outright, are also in action on Tuesday when they welcome in the New Orleans Pelicans (151.00) to the American Airlines Arena in South Beach.

On Sunday, the Heat took care of the visiting Toronto Raptors (66.00) in a battle of Division leaders but had to rally in the fourth quarter for the 102-97 victory. LeBron James led the way with a game-high 30 points to offset a strong shooting performance from the visitors who hit 50% from the floor.
