Brewers face Orioles at Miller Park

The Milwaukee Brewers open an eight-game home stand on Monday afternoon when the Baltimore Orioles are the visitors to town.

The Chicago Cubs and Minnesota Twins then follow the O’s into Miller Park as Milwaukee look to keep a fast-closing St Louis Cardinals side at bay in the National League Central Division.

On Sunday rookie Jimmy Nelson (1-0) was called up to make a spot start in place of Yovani Gallardo and impressed in his debut, allowing no runs on five hits and three walks while striking out six over 5 2-3 innings to defeat the Miami Marlins 7-1.

The top prospect in the Brewers farm system, Nelson was sent straight back down to Triple-A after the game, but there seems little doubt that Milwaukee will see the 24-year-old right-hander again before the end of the season.

Ryan Braun was 4-for-5 on the afternoon, falling a home run short of the cycle, as the Brewers remained a game-and-a-half ahead of the Cardinals.

St Louis returns home to Busch Stadium for the visit of the New York Yankees after taking two of three from the Reds at the Great American Ball Park in Cincinnati.

Adam Wainwright (8-2) became the first eight-game winner in the National League this season with eight-innings of five-hit ball in a 4-0 shut-out of the hosts.

Wainwright walked one and struck out 12 to get the better of Mike Leake (2-4) who conceded a couple of runs before leaving after six innings. Michael Wacha will get the call for the Cardinals in the opener of the three-game set before the San Francisco Giants arrive in St Louis later in the week.

TheĀ Cardinals areĀ 11.00 to win the World Series, while the Yankees can be backed at 17.00.
