Paulo Dybala proved a more than able deputy for the rested Gonzalo Higuaín by scoring one goal and creating another in Juventus’s 3-2 win over Atalanta in the Italian Cup on Wednesday. It booked a quarter-final place against Milan or Torino who play on Thursday.

Mario Mandzukic struck a post early for Juventus before, midway through the first half, Dybala scored with a volley from outside the area following a touch from the Croatia international. Before half-time Dybala threaded a pass through to Mandzukic, who made it 2-0 with an angled shot.

Sergio Ramos does it again as Real Madrid grab late win over Deportivo

Real Madrid set a new club record after a 35th consecutive match without a loss by beating Deportivo La Coruña 3-2 with another Sergio Ramos stoppage-time winner on Saturday.

Ramos, who scored an injury-time equaliser at Barcelona in the last round, headed in a corner kick after the 90 minutes were up to maintain Real’s six-point lead over Barcelona at the top of La Liga.

Valencia’s Gary Neville vents fury on players after Levante derby defeat

Gary Neville described the performance of his Valencia players’ as “indefensible” after they were beaten 1-0 in the La Liga local derby by bottom-placed Levante, a defeat that piled more pressure on the coach in his first managerial role .

“That was an indefensible performance, unacceptable, not good enough,” Neville said. “I apologise to the fans of Valencia because the very basic premise of a football match is that you run, fight and tackle as hard as the opposition. I can’t defend what I’ve just seen and I have to take full responsibility for that.”

A Danish court has handed the Denmark international and Evian striker Nicki Bille Nielsen a 60-day suspended prison sentence and 80 hours’ community service for violence against police officers who arrested him last year in Copenhagen after a night out.

A female police officer who sat with the handcuffed player in the backseat of the patrol car told the Copenhagen City Court on Thursday he bit her arm and pretended he would vomit on her. He denied the charges.
