Amanda Anisimova shocks Halep to reach French Open semi-final

• Anisimova stuns defending champion in straight sets 6-2, 6-4
• Seventeen-year-old will meet Barty for a place in the final

The defending champion, Simona Halep, is out of the French Open, beaten soundly in straight sets on Thursday by Amanda Anisimova, at 17 the youngest Roland Garros semi-finalist since Nicole Vaidisova, 13 years ago.

Anisimova, born in New Jersey and raised in Miami, the American daughter of Russian emigrants, won 6-2, 6-4 on Court Philippe Chatrier and plays the Australian Ashleigh Barty for a place in the final, scheduled for Saturday but under the threat of gathering rain.
