Aluko deal boost for Tigers

January 03, 2014 16:26:52 UK

Sone Aluko has pledged his future to Hull City by signing a new deal.

Hull City have been boosted by the news striker Sone Aluko has signed a new two-and-a-half year contract at the KC Stadium.

The 24-year-old Nigeria international, who is hoping to have a successful Premier League campaign to boost his hopes of going to this summer’s World Cup finals in Brazil, helped the Tigers secure promotion last term with eight Championship goals.

Aluko scored the winning goal at Newcastle earlier this season before being sidelined because of an Achilles injury, which he is closing in on a return from, and he is delighted to have penned a new deal.

I’m glad that it’s done, but I never really thought it wouldn’t happen. I’m happy here and things have turned out the way I thought they would.

The former Glasgow Rangers man insisted there was never any doubt that he was going to extend his stay with the Tigers and it merely just took a while to conclude the agreement.

Speaking on the club’s official website, he said: “I’m glad that it’s done, but I never really thought it wouldn’t happen. I’m happy here and things have turned out the way I thought they would.

“When I first signed, I said that the team was good enough to get into the Premier League and I felt that my second year here would be in the top flight. That is how it has worked out and I’m happy about that.

“I have to thank the manager and the owners of the club. I would also like to thank my team-mates for helping to make my time here a success. If it wasn’t for them, there probably wouldn’t be a new deal.”

Hull are 5.50 to finish in the top half of the Premier League this season. However they have the weekend off the bread and butter of the league as they travel to in-form Championship side Middlesbrough in the FA Cup third round on Saturday. The Tigers are 2.87 to win at the Riverside, while Aitor Karanka’s Boro are 2.55 and the draw is 3.50.
