Allardyce keen to keep improving

Sam Allardyce is confident that he will be able to persuade Alex Song to move to West Ham United on a permanent basis in the summer.

The 27-year-old former Arsenal midfielder is currently on a season-long loan at Upton Park from Barcelona and has enjoyed a superb first half to the campaign with the Hammers, who are 6.50 to finish in the top six this season.

Allardyce says he will be able to afford the ex-Cameroon international at the end of this season and thinks the player is enjoying his football in the capital.

The former Bolton, Blackburn and Newcastle manager said: “There is the lure of a new stadium, yes. (He would be in) London, yes. There are lots of plusses.

“Finishing the season well will be another bonus to show that we can sustain what we have done until now and not dip away.

“Alex will be a big part of that if he can stay fit until the end of the season. All those factors and challenging against clubs which might have a bigger history and tradition than ours means it is not always the case that they will succeed against you.

“The more the team gains success the better the pull for the better player. If you are going to improve you must always be striving to find better players.”

The Hammers play Hull City, 2.62 to be relegated, on Sunday, and are available at 2.20 to keep a clean sheet against the Tigers with Song 8.00 to score at any time in the encounter.
